4th Grade News – Week of August 30th
This week we have been busy finishing up our Beginning of Year Assessments and continuing to build our classroom community. We have had great class discussions on what it looks like, sounds like, and feels like to be respectful, welcoming, and ready to learn in all areas of CJDS, including in the classroom, the playground, the Art room, and so on. We have also had a lot of fun taking an occasional brain break with our favorite class game – Silent Speed Ball!
We were able to start our first math unit this week. Our initial 4th grade unit focuses on geometry. There is a lot of math vocabulary in this unit and the students have been learning to differentiate between different types of polygons, parallelograms, rays, lines, and line segments. They have also been building their own polygons with different manipulatives to strengthen their math mastery.
We ended the week with a special Rosh Hashana assembly and activities. The 4th graders enjoyed several stations set up by the Judaica teachers that included apples and honey and wrapping up some Challah to take home. Shana Tova!
