A Great First Week!

We had a wonderful first real week of second grade. The students have been practicing their rituals and routines to help our classroom run smoothly. We have read 5 different books that encourage students to accept others’ differences, always stay true to themselves, and show kindness! Ask your child about the following awesome books:

Chrysanthemum by, Kevin Henkes
My Name is Sangoel by, Karen Lynn Williams
Spork by, Kyo Maclear
Rosie Revere Engineer by, Andrea Beaty
Each Kindness by, Jaqueline Woodsen

This week we talked about our hopes and dreams for second grade. So many of us are excited to learn how to multiply and become even better readers! My dream for this year is to build a classroom community where students take risks, learn from one another, and treat each other with respect!

Math classes are already in full swing in our room and with Mrs. D. The students have worked on sequencing numbers on a number line, counting coins, and using clocks and calendars. Our first math unit is a review of some skills from last year that are easy to practice at home! Here are some math games to play at home:

I am looking forward to a wonderful second week of school! Have a relaxing and fun Labor Day! (Oh, and remember to send in your public library cards. Great job Henry and Charlie on getting yours in early!)

Congratulations to our first raffle ticket winners! Levi, Yehuda Leib, Jacob E., Henry, and Austin x 2!
