A Sweet Beginning

It has long been a Jewish tradition that when children begin learning the Aleph Bet, they are given something sweet, as a reminder that learning the Torah is sweet.

At CJDS, we have somewhat modernized this custom with Rice Krispy treats shaped like an Aleph. I may have done this for over ten years already, yet I never fail to be moved by the privilege and responsibility of guiding my little kindergartners on the first step of the path of their Jewish education.
