A Sweet Beginning

It has long been a Jewish tradition that when children begin learning the Aleph Bet, they are given something sweet, as a reminder that learning the Torah is sweet.

At CJDS, we have somewhat modernized this custom with Rice Krispy treats shaped like an Aleph. I may have done this for ten years already, yet I never fail to be moved by the privilege and responsibility of guiding my little kindergartners on the first step of the path of their Jewish education.

May the journey be sweet indeed!

In kindergarten, we don’t just eat an Aleph, we write an Aleph, we shape the Aleph, we look for the Aleph, and we even walk the Aleph!
