February 2-6

Busy week at CJDS! We went on our Aleph Bet Hunt at Boyce Park. The weather was perfect and the kids did a great job teaching me what the letters look like so I could help them hunt for them. 🙂 NOT an easy task for someone like me, who doesn’t know the Aleph Bet that well! I am glad I had them there to help me.

We also went to the Duke Energy Assembly. Those are always my favorite. The National Theater for Children always does an excellent job and are very entertaining! They learned about natural resources and how to preserve them. The slogan they learned was “Open your eyes, be resource wise”.

Finally, our last assembly was today. Mr. Stone came in and taught the kids about how bees produce honey and how it is taken from hive for us to enjoy. 🙂

On top of all that we learned about different animal groups in our weekly story. Animal Groups taught us about similarities and differences between different animals. The students learned fish, birds, amphibians, reptiles and mammals. They worked with a partner to fill out a venn diagram to compare and contrast different animal groups. During our phonics lessons we focused on our weekly pattern, which was the long i sound. They also learned about silent letter combinations such as gn, wr, kn, and mb. We played bingo to practice reading words with those letter combinations.

Next week we will celebrate the 100th day of school, on Tuesday! We will do a bunch of fun 100th day activities but the students do not need to prepare anything for this day.

I hope you all have a happy and safe weekend. Shabbat Shalom.
