Reading

We continued with our work on retelling stories this week.  We used the story of the Gingerbread Man.  The children also practiced using our sentence openers (first, then, after, next and finally) to tell the stories to each other.

This week we learned all about the ‘H’ brothers.  The ‘H’ brothers are the consonant digraphs sh, ch, th, and wh.  The children have learned what these two sounds say together and played centers to practice identifying which sound is in a picture.  We also have been looking carefully at finding the ‘H’ brothers in our books.

The children are enjoying the new reading app I introduced called Raz-Kids.  They love reading the leveled books assigned to them in the Book Room and have fun earning points by completing a quiz at the end of each book.

Math

In math this week, we have focused on using tally marks as a strategy to organize our data.  The children have collected data by finding out what animal their friends like best and then using the tally marks to keep count.  The children also worked on answering questions about the data such as how many more does the monkey have than the tiger?

The children have continued to work on composing and decomposing numbers to 10.

Writing

Our writing this week focused on retelling the story of the Gingerbread man.
The children tried to write each important part of the story by using the opener words we are learning (listed above) and including the most importat parts.  The children also focused on putting spaces between their words.

I hope you all have a great weekend and the children come to school excited next week to have Chanukah fun!!
