Shabbat Shalom
This week the students examined the Parashah of Vayera. There is a verse in this week’s Parashah that says that the morning that Avraham was to sacrifice Yitzchak, he got up early. So the question is, how could he have gotten up early to do such a difficult thing? The commentaries tell us that we should always do a Mitzvah quickly when we have the chance.
To bring the message home, we read a short story about a boy who comes home from school to find a note. His Mom wants him to come to the store and help her carry the groceries home. He wants to do the right thing and he wants to keep the mitzvah of kibud horim (respecting parents) but he decides that first he needs to change his clothes and have a snack and a power nap and by the time he opens the door to leave the house, there is his mom carrying all the packages herself. So sometimes when you procrastinate, you miss an opportunity for a mitzvah.
Remember when you sign the paper saying that your child shared his or her version of this weeks “word of Torah”, please write a sentence telling us what you liked about the message that you heard from your student. This is a way for us to spot check to see if they are telling you what is written in Hebrew on the paper. We are trying to encourage them to be accountable and to make sure that they understand what they have written.
I hope that everyone has a lovely Shabbat and a lovely weekend.
All the best
