Welcome Back!

Winter Break is over and we are back in the groove of school. Students seemed very eager to get back, which made me feel good. 🙂 I was excited to see their smiling faces and hear all about the fun things they did while they were away. This week we reviewed our Journeys story and skills from the week before we left. I decided not to test the kids before break since I didn’t think they were in the “best testing mind-set”. All of the excitement for the break just seemed like a lot. Plus, we had our pajama party on that last Friday which is when we usually take our Journeys test. So I thought this week would be a good week to review and take the test. Students read the non-fiction story Seasons. We talked about cause and effect. Students wrote stories about their favorite season in our writing center. This week we also had a surprise visit from the 4th grade for one of the 1st grade groups. 4th grade came in and we paired a 1st grader up with some 4th graders for reading buddies. It went so well! All of the kids seemed to really enjoy it and asked if it can become a regular activity. Mrs. Dranove and I will discuss and hopefully we will be able to do that again. Next week we will be reading a story called The Race. It is a version of the fable The Tortoise and the Hare.

On Thursday we celebrated the engagement of Morah Chaya! The whole school went out in the hallway and congratulated her. We celebrated with music and dancing!

I hope everyone has a nice weekend. Panthers get a break this week so enjoy the Wild Card games. 🙂
