Welcome to North Carolina!
Third graders are studying different states and learning about the geography, natural resources, climate and native people of the area. In many states, Native Americans have left a powerful mark with their artwork and students are learning about all of this! As a culminating project, kids will be designing a brochure to display their knowledge of the chosen state. On Wednesday, Mrs. Gamlin planned a fun field trip to the North Carolina Welcome Center. Students were able to view and explore different brochures about our area, and get ideas for their own designs! Did you know North Carolina is home to the ONLY emerald mine open to the public for prospecting? In 2012, an amateur miner found a 50 carat emerald….worth tens of thousands of dollars!
