Chatham University BA History, English and Music,  Masters in Education

Teacher
5th Grade General Studies

Christy has been teaching in the Charlotte Area for over 20 years, primarily at a school for highly-gifted learners. She has taught in almost every environment and she has taught almost every grade (1-8) and almost every subject including Western-European History, US History, Pre-Algebra, Language Arts and drama. She has also taught in Las Vegas and in Pittsburgh and has presented at several national conferences (gifted and science) on topics such as using the classics with children, the importance of drama for gifted learners, and ways to integrate science and language arts curricula. An avid learner, Miss Hinkelman has degrees in English, history, music (vocal performance) and gifted education. She attends many personal professional development workshops and attended an NEH program on Japanese Internment camps this past summer at Heart Mountain, Wyoming. Christy is very active in Charlotte-area community theater and has been lucky to perform such dream roles as Maria (Sound of Music), Marian (The Music Man), Agnes (I Do, I Do) and Mrs Potts (Beauty and the Beast). She has also directed a wide variety of shows and she is hoping to bring some theater opportunities into her classroom.

Miss Hinkelman is excited to join CJDS and is looking forward to a fantastic year!
