3rd Grade ELA
Hello! My name is Jenn Sawyer (Morah Jenn to my students), and I am so excited for my second year teaching 3rd-grade ELA at CJDS!
Born and raised in Virginia, I received my BA from Sweet Briar College in International Affairs and Economics. Soon after graduating, I fell in love with education! I spent several years teaching second grade before marrying and homeschooling my own children until they entered high school. My oldest, Max, is an insurance underwriter in Richmond, VA, and my younger son, Alex, is a college student here in Charlotte.
Shalom Park has been my family’s home for twenty years, as well as my professional home. I have taught Hebrew school at Temple Beth El for sixteen years, tutored Hebrew through Tikvah Charlotte, working with students with diverse learning needs, taught teens at Hebrew High for eight years, designed and taught classes as the Israel Cultural Specialist at Camp Mindy, and taught Elements of Judaism, a class for adults who are interested in learning more about the Jewish faith, at Temple Beth El.
As an educator, I want to help my students find and feed their passion by immersing them in rich literature, creative lessons, and thought-provoking discussions and debates. I want to speak with my students, not just at them. My hope is that my children know, in my classroom, they are seen, heard, respected, and cherished.
